Hay Harvest Affects on Cattle Feed

No one knows for sure what cattle feed costs for next winter will be, but there’s a chance they could be on the rise. K-State Beef Cattle Nutritionist Dale Blasi says a way to keep those costs in check is deciding when to harvest hay this summer.

Blasi says his previous research shows that the later prairie hay is put up, the higher the eventual cattle feeding costs rise.  Blasi says producers need to make every effort to harvest hay in a timely manner.
