The Federal Emergency Management Agency has launched a new program to help families pay for the cost of funerals due to COVID-19. FEMA would provide up to $9,000 for funeral expenses to people since January 20th, 2020. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says unfortunately there are scammers who are trying to take advantage of this.
Schmidt says this is just one of the two versions of this scam, in the other version they don't ask for money but they want your information. Schmidt says there is no cost to apply for this assistance and no one from the government is going to call you and try to get you to apply for it.
