A West Elk High School senior has been recognized for her academic achievements.

Howard native Christina Perkins has been named as a 2021 Kansas Governor's Scholar. This award honors and recognizes the top one percent of all high school seniors in Kansas. Scholars are selected from all accredited public and private schools in the state.

Normally, those selected are invited to an awards ceremony in Topeka, hosted by the governor. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Perkins and the other scholars will be recognized via an on-demand virtual program.
