K-99 Widening Project to Start Next Week

Beginning on Monday, drivers in Chautauqua County can expect delays of around 15 minutes as the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin work on a project that will widen a section of K-99 in Chautauqua County.

The 13-mile project area extends from the K-99/U.S. 166 Business junction at Sedan north to the Chautauqua-Elk county line. Project activity includes adding three-foot shoulders to the roadway, pavement patching, and replacing a box bridge. Traffic will be reduced to one lane controlled by signals at the work zone. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by late May 2022.

KDOT awarded the $8 million construction contract to Cornejo & Sons, LLC, of Wichita.
