Driving while under the influence of alcohol in Montgomery County could become even more costly.

County Attorney Lisa Montgomery spoke to the county commission at their most recent meeting regarding an increased fee of $100 for anyone who applies for a diversion on a DUI.

The money from each diversion would be split among the county's four school districts (Coffeyville, Independence, Cherryvale, and Caney Valley) with $25 going to each district. Montgomery said that this would build up until eventually Topeka would send a check out to each school.

Nothing was passed, but the proposal will be discussed again at a later date.
