Proehl Discusses Governor Vetoes, Education Budget

Representative Richard Proehl joined KGGF for his monthly visit and about a variety of topics including Governor Laura Kelly vetoing several bills and the education budget that has yet to be finished.

Rep. Proehl first brought up House Bill 2089, which would have allowed school boards to provide firearm safety education programs to students of all ages. Proehl, who voted for the bill, said that there may not be enough votes to override Kelly's veto.

Rep. Proehl also talked about House Bill 2039, which would have required high schoolers to pass a basic civics test in order to graduate.

Rep. Proehl brought up the education budget that failed just before adjournment.

The Legislature will return to Topeka for the veto session on May 3rd to attempt to override any vetoes and finish the education budget.
