Drug Take Back Day this Weekend

National Drug Take-Back Day is coming up this weekend. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said law enforcement officers at locations across the state will be collecting unused medications for safe disposal Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The collection events are part of a nationwide effort to safely dispose of leftover medications to prevent accidental or intentional misuse.

Since the Drug Take-Back Day program began in 2010, more than 101 tons of unwanted medications have been collected and destroyed in Kansas alone. Kansas law enforcement agencies that are participating in this include Neodesha Police Department, Chanute Police Department, Pittsburg Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriffs Office. In Oklahoma, both the Bartlesville Police Department and Miami Nation Police Department are participating.

Unwanted prescription drugs can also be dropped off at the Coffeyville Police Department any time. There is a green drop off container located just inside the front entrance to the police department. CPD asks for no syringes in the drop box.
