With an average of 22 suicides in America every day, veterans have the highest suicide rate among any profession.

 

This was discussed in length at the most recent Montgomery County commission meeting. There are over 3,000 veterans in Montgomery County.

 

Veterans are having to go to Wichita for various reasons including things like dental care, but Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 representatives are trying to help vets who can't afford to travel to Wichita if they are in an urgent need.

 

VFW asked for $10,000, and the county commissioners lowered it to $2,500. A gentleman spoke up about how he had recently been affected by the impacts of their program.

 

Commissioner Mike Cordray then decided to up the funding to $3,000 which was passed 2-1 with Commissioner Larry McManus voting no only because he thought the amount given was too low.
