Cherryvale to Vote on Sales Tax Renewal Today

Cherryvale residents will head to the polls today to vote on whether or not to renew a sewer sales tax.

The renewal is a one-percent tax that wouldn't increase the current total sales tax rate, according to the city, it would only keep the sales tax rate at what it is currently.

Money from the tax will continue to go towards bond and interest payments, sewer maintenance and repairs, and city jobs to maintain the sewer system.

The sales tax requires renewal every ten years. City voters renewed the sales tax in 2011. If vote goes through, it will go into effect October 1st and runs through 2031. The debt is expected to be retired in 2035.
