A stabbing in downtown Independence occurred on Sunday morning.
Law enforcement officers with the Independence Police Department were called to the 100 block of W. Main Street around 3:30 a.m. for a disturbance. According to witnesses, there were multiple people arguing with one of the persons then being stabbed. There is no information regarding the condition of the stabbing victim.
Police were then in pursuit of what was reported by witnesses to be the suspect's vehicle. IPD arrested 25-year-old Nicholas Monjure for the interference of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving. However, he was not in connection to the stabbing.
After further investigation, IPD arrested 25-year-old Spencer Toomey for aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Both subjects were held in the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
