Adjustments to the rural fire departments in Montgomery County were discussed once again at the most recent Montgomery County Commission meeting.
District Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management Rick Whitson made some clarifications regarding his proposal from a week ago. He clarified that he is hoping to reduce the fleet of firetrucks up to and no more than 25% instead of a solidified 25%. He also cleared up who the primary response units of the county are.
Whitson also discussed with the commission why he believes it would benefit the fire chiefs in the county to have an additional part-time employee that checks for safety issues among their fire trucks. The commissioners were hesitant to approve the new employee saying that these are checks that wouldn't take too much effort for the fire chiefs to do themselves.
Whitson is meeting with fire chiefs in the area tonight to discuss these issues.
