Arrest Made for Animal Cruelty in Parsons

A 28-old-man has been arrested for animal cruelty and discharging a firearm. Earlier this week, the Parsons Police Department received a call from a citizen that a dog had been shot in the 1400 block of South 12th Street.

Officers arrived in the area and met with witnesses to the incident. Officers were able to collect video surveillance of the incident, which shows Jordan Thompson of Parsons going to a nearby vehicle after seeing the dog, retrieves a pistol, and then stalks his way over to the dog and fires a shot striking the animal in the hip and leg area. The dog then ran away injured and bleeding. The dog was taken to the Parsons Animal Hospital for emergency care.

Thompson was later taken into custody for felony cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor count of criminal discharge of a firearm in city limits. Cruelty to animals in this situation is a felony with a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison with a maximum fine of up to $5,000.
