Be Prepared for Severe Weather

Peak tornado season in Kansas runs from April to June with the state averaging 95 tornadoes per year. Kansas State University Assistant State Climatologist Mary Knapp says now is the time to prepare a plan for what you’ll do when severe weather alerts are issued in your area.

Knapp says it's not just tornadoes that you need to worry about with severe weather in the spring, but also lightning, hail and strong winds. When there is severe weather in the area make sure to tune into KGGF for your two-time award-winning severe weather coverage.
