Cold Weather's Affect on Wheat Crop

Record-breaking cold temperatures and a week-and-a-half below freezing have raised questions about the durability of the winter wheat crop. K-State Wheat Production Specialist Romulo Lollato says that the soil temperatures are the key.

Lollato says that the extent of winterkill was probably fairly limited, but producers should watch for indications of damage as the weather warms up.  Lollato says it will be about the middle of March before producers can make a good judgment of what happened.
