Two Dead in Three Car Accident in Nowata County

 

A three-vehicle accident kills two people on US-169 and State Highway 10 near Lenapah in Nowata County. The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. with foggy conditions in the area.

 

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Freightliner driven by 43-year-old Diana Herweck of Drumright was heading southbound on US-169 when 21-year-old Samuel Barron of Lenapah attempted to turn southbound on US-169 from Hwy 10. Herweck's vehicle struck the back of Barron's Dodge Ram pickup, sending him into the northbound lanes of US-169 where he struck a third vehicle driven by 64-year-old Larry Schick of Oklahoma City head-on. Barron's vehicle came to rest on its top in the northbound lanes of US-169 while the other two vehicles came to rest in opposite ditches.

 

Barron was transported to the St. John Medical Center in Nowata where he was treated and released in good condition with no injuries. Herweck was transported by Nowata EMS to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was treated and released in good condition with neck and leg injuries. Schick was transported by Coffeyville EMS to the CRMC where he was pronounced dead due to massive injuries sustained in the collision. Schick was pinned for almost an hour before he was freed by the Lenapah Fire Department with the Jaws of Life. His passenger, 60-year-old Kimberly Schick, was pronounced deceased by Nowata EMS due to massive injuries.

 

The OHP says seatbelts were in use by all vehicles. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Traffic was detoured around the accident for 4.5 hours on Saturday morning.
