Kansas AG Urges Reconsideration of Keystone XL Cancellation

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has asked President Joe Biden to reconsider his unilateral decision to revoke the permit for the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Schmidt joined 13 other AGs in sending a letter to the president to express their concern about the decision on his first day in office to issue an executive order canceling the project.

The AGs said that the pipeline, once completed, would bring oil and natural gas supplies to market and maintain the efforts by the United States to reduce the demand for energy from the Middle East. Halting the pipeline threatens states and local communities that anticipated jobs and tax revenue related to the project and its ongoing operations. The AGs also stated that they are reviewing legal options to protect their residents and sovereign interests.
