Several fire crews responded to an early morning fire in Independence on Tuesday.
Just after 3:30 am, Independence Fire/EMS was dispatched to a structure fire at 708 Washington Street. People were reported to be trapped inside. When officers arrived, they found employees from Daylight Donuts getting victims out of the house. Fire-EMS transported three patients to the ER.
The house was fully involved with the fire. The Kansas Fire Marshall and the Independence Police Department are investigating the cause of the blaze.
