Coffeyville and the surrounding areas will see some of the coldest temperatures of the season this week. With periods of brutally cold weather like this, pipes are at risk of freezing. Triple A's Dan Scroggins says a crack as small as 1/8-inch can spew up to 250 gallons of water per day, causing flooding, serious structural damage, and the potential for mold.
Triple-A offers some tips to help prevent your pipes from freezing. Seal gaps around pipes that allow cold air inside, disconnect garden hoses, leave a faucet on over night to allow warm water to drip slightly, preferably from a faucet on an outside wall and open up cabinet doors to allow heat to reach uninsulated pipes.
