The Sedan Public Library has received a grant as part of an initiative to help libraries serve their rural and smaller communities.

The library was one of 200 to be selected as part of the "Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries" initiative created by the American Library Association. The grant will give the library $3,000 that will be used to gather community input on how a future library facility could meet community needs.

Sedan Public Library workers will take a course in how to lead conversations, and then use grant funds to generate interest in the project and host information gathering sessions.

According to the ALA, more than 300 libraries applied for the grant.
