The City of Galena is receiving a sizable grant that will be used to evaluate the city's wastewater system.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced the $40,000 grant to the city Wednesday afternoon. The grant is a part of the Small Community Engineering Assistance Program which offers funding to help small communities cover engineering costs for evaluating wastewater system improvements.

Galena will spend the grant identifying wastewater system improvements needed to continue reliable service to the area, meeting permit requirements, and reducing stormwater infiltration into sewer collection pipes. The facility plan should be complete in May 2021.
