A suicidal man shot himself in the chest in Miami, Oklahoma after officers attempted to calm him down.

Sunday afternoon, MPD got a call regarding a suicidal subject in the 600 block of J St NW holding a gun to his head. The officers set a perimeter and engaged the male subject trying to calm him down and seeking treatment.

After around an hour of trying to calm the man down, the man brought the gun down and fired a round into his chest. Officers on the scene rushed to his aid and transported him to a hospital in Joplin.

Miami PD has not commented on the identity of the individual or the condition the man is in.
