Two Sedan Men Arrested in Caney for Theft

Two Sedan men are arrested for theft in Caney over the weekend. Caney Police Officers received information about a trailer that had been stolen early yesterday morning. Officers immediately began to investigate the theft and were able to determine that the vehicle involved in the theft was a 2000 GMC Denali. The vehicle was located in Sedan by a Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputy. The vehicle had run out of gas, but there was no trailer with the vehicle.

The two suspects were identified as 44-year-old Jason Clay Hopkins and 27-year-old Joseph Fredrick Byrd. After questioning the two men, officers discovered they had ditched the trailer down an embankment in an attempt to hide it. Byrd was arrested for interference with a law enforcement officer and theft. Hopkins was arrested for theft and failure to appear. Both men were transported to the Chautauqua County Jail.
