Stranded in Winter Weather Safety Tips

With the potential for some winter weather this week the Kansas Division of Emergency Management has some safety tips for if your car were to get stranded in the snow.

The first thing you should do is alert the authorities, you can call 911, the Kansas Highway Patrol or the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Don't panic and stay in your vehicle. Do not attempt to find help by walking. Your car provides the best protection from the weather and you are more likely to be discovered. Keep fresh air circulating by clearing snow away from the tailpipe and running the motor sparingly. Only open the downwind window to provide proper ventilation. Keep active and move around to stimulate circulation, relieve muscle tension and help keep you awake.
