The Independence City Commission will meet for a regular meeting Thursday to, among other things, consider approving a request to hold another drag race event at the municipal airport.

If approved, the Independence Municipal Airport would be the site for the 2021 Kansas Airstrip Attack, which will be held April 17-18 of next year. While the main airstrip would be restricted on those two dates, Textron Aviation has indicated that this would not interrupt their usual operations as it falls on a weekend.

In other business, the commission will consider establishing the Independence Land Bank and will also consider raising the rental fees for Lone Chief Cabin. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm on Thursday.
