USD 446 in Independence has been notified of several COVID-19 cases across the district's school system. The Montgomery County Health Department informed the district on Monday of 15 positive cases. Those cases include a staff member and student at Eisenhower, a staff member at Jefferson, a student at Independence Middle School, and three staff members and eight students at Independence High School.

Per protocol, USD 446 has closed off areas of the building the individuals tested have used in the past several days so that they may be thoroughly cleaned. Those who have tested positive and those who have been identified as close contacts will not be allowed to return to the building until cleared by the health department, but will have access to remote learning.
