Boil Water Advisory In Caney

There is currently a boil water advisory in the city of Caney.

A water line break occurred earlier this week lessening the water pressure. According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

Steps that should be taken to make sure you and your family are safe during this advisory are the following:

-Flushing the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.

-Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.

-Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker.

-Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.

-Supervising your children bathing to be sure water is not ingested. Water for bathing does not need to be boiled.

The city is doing everything it can to get the issue resolved, and the advisory will be in effect until the safe amount of water pressure throughout the city can be maintained.
