One person was transported to the hospital and a house was nearly a total loss after a fire in Cherryvale Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 1 pm, the Cherryvale Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 600 block of West Main Street. Upon arrival, flames and heavy smoke was pouring out of the structure. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire. One occupant of the home was transported to a local hospital for evaluation with minor injuries. Independence Fire/EMS Department, Cherryvale Police Department, and the Cherryvale Public Works Department assisted with the fire

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
