Independence City Commission Will Implement Special Use Sales Tax Thursday

The Independence City Commission will formally implement the recently-approved one cent special use sales tax at its next meeting Thursday.

The sales tax, which will be implemented in 2022, is expected to generate $1.9 million in revenue over a ten-year period. It was approved by voters during the November general election. Following the implementation by city commissioners, the tax ordinance will be submitted to the Kansas Department of Revenue.

In other business, the commission will consider approving the 2021 meeting schedule and will also consider scheduling a worksession to further discuss Phase II of the 1916 City Hall project. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm, in the Civic Center at Memorial Hall.
