Residents in Chetopa and surrounding towns need to prepare for a power outage that will occur tonight during a substation switchover. The power shutoff is set to begin at 9 p.m. Electricity for the town will be off for four to six hours.

During the shutdown, the town will make some repairs to the city’s infrastructure. Melrose and Welch, Oklahoma, along with any other communities served by the Liberty Utilities substation also will not have electricity during the changeover.
