2.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Lamont, Oklahoma

An earthquake hit northern Oklahoma early Thanksgiving morning.

The 2.9 magnitude earthquake's epicenter was recorded as being just over 6 miles west of Lamont, Oklahoma, and just over 8 miles south of Medford. The earthquake was reportedly felt as far away as Wichita, which is about 83 miles north of the small town of roughly 400 people.

The earthquake is the most powerful recorded earthquake in Oklahoma this month. The largest earthquake felt in Oklahoma this year was not centered in the state, but rather in South Hutchison, Kansas.
