Montgomery County will automatically opt into Governor Laura Kelly's Executive Order 20-68, regarding masks, at midnight tonight. Emergency Management Director Rick Whitson says they had opted into the governor's previous order.

Both Whitson and Health Department Director Carolyn Muller recommended opting into the new order, but the public who attended the meeting spoke in support of opting out. Commissioner Fred Brown made the motion to opt-in, Larry McManus did not second the motion and Robert Bever was not in attendance so the motion failed. With the motion failing the county automatically opts in at midnight.

Further discussion will take place at the next regularly scheduled county commission meeting.
