Turkey Day Safety Tips

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, Caney Fire and Rescue reminds you of ways you can stay safe when preparing your turkey for your family this holiday.

Cold glass cookware should never be put in the oven and hot glass cookware should never be put in cold water or in the fridge.

Frozen turkeys should never be fried. When a frozen turkey is dropped into hot oil, the ice begins to turn to steam. The rapidly expanding steam causes the oil to boil over. If you are going to deep fry a turkey, make sure it's fully thawed in your fridge before you fry it. Make sure your oil is not overfilled in your pot, and make sure that the oil is no hotter than 350 degrees. When dropping the turkey in, make sure you turn the flame off and lower it into the oil slowly.
