A Montgomery County Convention and Tourism Committee was approved by the County Commission at the weekly commission meeting Monday morning.

The funding for the committee will come from a countywide transient five percent guest tax derived from sleeping accommodations in any hotel, motel, or tourist court.

The committee will be made up of nine people with three each coming from the Independence and Coffeyville Chambers of Commerce, one each from the cities of Caney and Cherryvale, and one at-large member to be nominated by the Board of County Commissioners.

The resolution was unanimously passed and will go into effect immediately.
