Motorists in the area just east of Altamont will be able to move a little more freely as the Kansas Department of Transportation has opened the west leg of the roundabout at U.S. 59/U.S. 160 in Labette County.

Construction, however, continues at the south leg. The north and east legs opened to traffic in mid-October. The temporary road for east- and westbound traffic is currently being removed. KDOT reminds drivers to obey the signs and pavement markings and to slow down through the work zone.

LaForge & Budd Construction of Parsons is the primary contractor on the $3.2 million roundabout project. Weather permitting, the roundabout should be finished and open to unrestricted traffic by December.
