Legendary Coffeyville Coach Passes Away

Dick Foster, who essentially put Coffeyville Community College football on the map, has passed away at the age of 86.

Foster arrived in Coffeyville in February of 1975 and brought back championship football. Foster’s Red Ravens went 127-23-2 including winning the National Championship in 1983 during his 14 seasons at the helm. His teams also played in 11 bowl games, winning eight. Foster also coached at Fort Scott Community College, which won the NJCAA National Championship in 1970.

Foster is the only head coach in NJCAA history that has won a National Championship at two different schools and still has the highest winning percentage of any head coach in junior college ball by winning 85% of the games he coached.

He was selected to the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame, the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame as well as Coffeyville's and Fort Scott's Hall of Fames.
