The city of Independence has initated a search for a new city engineer.

City Manager Kelly Passauer announced a new step in the city's reorganization plan during Thursday's city commission meeting. The city engineer would operate under the supervision of the assistant city manager and would be responsible for the overall administration and direction of all public works and utility departments. That would entail the supervision of the operations of the water plant, wastewater plant, sanitation and municipal airport, as well as street and water/sewer crews.

The position will be considered open until filled, but first review of applications will begin on November 18.
