Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has declared October to be Fire Prevention Month with Fire Prevention Week being through the rest of this week.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is working to educate everyone on kitchen safety. Cooking is the number one cause of house fires with over 2,000 residential cooking-related fires occurring every year in Kansas.
Staying in the kitchen, using a timer and avoiding distractions such as electronics or TV are steps everyone can take to keep families safe in their homes.
