Man Arrested with Stolen Vehicle and Handgun, Explosive Device

A Parsons man was arrested early Saturday morning on a laundry list of charges, including criminal possession of explosives.

A Labette County Sheriff's deputy was initially dispatched on a report of a reckless driver heading north on Gove and Gray Road. The deputy then located the vehicle in question, which had been involved in a single-car accident and had come to rest in a ditch. The deputy also located the driver, Tyler Dwaine Vickrey of Parsons.

Dispatch informed the deputy that Vickrey had a suspended license. Vickrey then fled the scene as the deputy approached, but was arrested after a minor scuffle. During the investigation, deputies were also informed that the vehicle was stolen out of Wichita, and also discovered a handgun that had been stolen out of Fredonia. After discovering the firearm, deputies then discovered an explosive device and halted the search.

The Kansas Highway Patrol bomb squad was notified and called to the scene, where they were able to remove the device and determine that it was a live device. After the vehicle was rendered clear and safe to search, officers found various items related to the distribution of methamphetamine.

Vickrey was booked into the Labette County jail on charges including, but not limited to, distribution of methamphetamine, criminal possession of explosives, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
