It may seem a little early to be talking about preparing for winter, but there are things that can be done now to make sure you are ready. Kansas State University Assistant State Climatologist Mary Knapp says you want to protect the home from potential storm damage and prevent the cold air from getting in.

Knapp says to also get your furnace serviced and check the batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
