A 35-year-old man was killed as he was struck by a car just north of Cherryvale.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2016 Dodge Journey driven by 39-year-old Nicholas Barriger of Chanute was headed northbound on U.S. 169 when he attempted to make an evasive maneuver to avoid an airborne object and struck Darrin Kebert Jr. of Cherryvale who was on the right shoulder of the road. Barriger and his two juvenile occupants were unhurt in the accident.

Safety restraints were in use in the vehicle.
