Coffeyville’s Reawakening: Neighborhood Initiative has selected four Coffeyville homeowners to receive porch facelifts as part of the 2020 Quick Action AARP Community Challenge Grant. A total of 12 judges rated 40 entries based on porch potential, homeowner care, and pride, structure, and location.

The final round consisted of three entries each divided into four distinct neighborhoods to ensure equity in awarding grants throughout the city. Winners include Cynthia South at 1303 West 5th, Tammy and James Jones at 1820 South Walnut, Sara and Richard Wellington at 406 East 10th, and Julia Kuehn at 911 West 6th. Each homeowner will work in partnership with Coffeyville’s Reawakening: Neighborhood Initiative project teams to determine look, feel, style, and priorities for that porch makeover.

In addition, the judges awarded a special “Porchologist” recognition to the entries that represented what a porch can be and had made improvements. All winners will receive plaques recognizing their neighborhood improvement.
