The drowning that was reported at the Montgomery County State Fishing Lake is an Independence Community College student athlete. Executive Vice President Cordell Jordan told the Montgomery County Chronicle that the deceased student was a member of the ICC football team. At this time a name has not been released as the college is working to notify the student's family. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is expected to release a statement at a later time.

According to the Chronicle, Jordan says losing a student is always a tough situation for everyone on campus and they have made various mental health services available to assist the students. Law enforcement and first responders were summoned to the lake late Wednesday night for a report of a possible drowning. The body was recovered from the lake this morning.
