The suspect involved in a break-in in Labette County has been identified. Earlier this week the Labette County 911 dispatch received a call of an individual laying on the ground at the intersection of Highway 59 & 17000 Road. Upon arrival, deputies found a man bleeding from the chest. During the investigation, officers learned that the man broke into a nearby residence.
Upon hearing someone inside his home, the owner shot the armed suspect prior to him running from the house. The suspect, who has been identified as 33-year-old Jake Cervantes of Parsons, was taken by ambulance to Labette Health and later transferred to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Cervantes is charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
