SEK Game Warden Receives Transportation Safety Award

A local game warden has received a Transportation Safety award from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Ross L. Uhrmacher will receive the Hero Award from KDOT for his efforts in the rescuing of an 88-year old man. Uhrmacher launched a SeaArk boat into the fast-flowing floodwaters of the Verdigris River to save the driver, who trapped in his almost submerged vehicle. Uhrmacher works for the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism in Chanute.

The Hero Award recognizes an individual who risked his or her own life for someone else when they happened upon a crash or while trying to prevent the likelihood of a crash in a one-time traffic safety-related incident. Uhrmacher's award, along with other award recipients, will be presented at the 26th Annual Transportation Safety Conference next April in Wichita.
