Unemployment Spikes in Kansas

As national figures released yesterday indicated, the spread of COVID-19 is taking its toll on the economy. Kansas is no exception.  During a press conference this afternoon, Kansas Department of Labor Secretary Delia Garcia said the state is seeing a big spike in unemployment filings.

Garcia said the number of unemployment claims went from 1.820 last week to 23,925 this week.

In an effort to slow the spread of the virus it’s recommended that anyone needing to file for unemployment benefits do so on-line at www.getkansasbenefits.gov.
