The Independence Fire/EMS and Independence Police Department were presented with a life saving award last Thursday night.

Fire/EMS also honored the patient's wife who performed CPR on her husband until the arrival of EMS.

The patient was in cardiac arrest for 17 minutes and has since recovered and returned to work.

The life saving award was presented to Lt. Bennett, firefighter Rolland, paramedic firefighter Gates, paramedic firefighter Bowman, Fire/EMS Chief Wallis, and IPD dispatcher Peck.
