Monday Recognized as Amber Alert Awareness Day

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and KBI Director Kirk Thompson remind the people of Kansas to stay vigilant when the public's assistance is needed to help locate missing children. The reminder comes after Monday was recognized as National Amber Alert Awareness Day.

Since 1996, the national program has successfully brought 977 children home safely. In Kansas, 50 children have been returned home safely since 2002.

When an alert is issued, the media are notified to begin broadcasting the details of the missing child and suspect.

More information can be found online on the Attorney General's website.
