A man and woman were arrested Thursday afternoon in Scammon after Cherokee County deputies responded to a burglary in progress.

Arrested at the scene of the burglary was 34-year old Carl Thomas Powell of Pittsburg and 27-year old Nictoria Michelle Hill of Fort Scott. Although Powell was armed with two large knives, both were taken into custody without any further incident.

Powell is being held in the Cherokee County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond on allegations of residential burglary, theft, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has previously been convicted in Cherokee County for attempted intentional 2nd degree murder. Hill's bond has been set at $6,000 on suspicion of residential burglary and theft.
