Former Caney City Clerk, 70-year old Carole Sue Coker, was sentenced on Thursday in a federal courtroom in Wichita for embezzling thousands of dollars that were paid to the City of Caney for utilities and other bills.

Coker pleaded guilty back in October to one count of mail fraud and she must also pay back $150,000. She was sentenced to three years of federal probation. 

In her plea deal, Coker admitted to stealing part of check and cash payments that people made to the City of Caney for water and other utilities then concealing thefts by not entering all of the payments in the city's accounting system.

Coker was the City Clerk in Caney for nearly 40 years before she retired in 2013.
