NWS Sets Fire Danger Level for Montgomery County

The National Weather Service out of Wichita has set an elevated fire danger level for Montgomery County through Tuesday night. The county is set at an extreme level on the Kansas Grassland Fire Danger Index, which is the second highest level. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to dispose of smoke materials properly and to use extreme caution when using any kind of open flame.

Most of southeastern and south central Kansas fall under the increased and current fire danger levels, including areas to the north and east of Coffeyville.
